Teacher Training Videos
Russell Stannard is a principal lecturer in Multimedia/ICT at the University of Westminster as well as the course leader in the MSc in Interactive Multimedia . He has a regular column in the English Teaching Professional called Webwatcher where he writes about technology and language teaching. The column has been running for 7 years. The ELT Professional has begun to offer free on-line examples of Russell’s articles from Webwatcher.
He has worked in Spain, China, Greece and the UK and was the Director of Studies of the International House Centre in Seville Spain for 9 years and a teacher trainer with the Spanish government.Russell also teaches on courses in ICT and English for Academic Purposes as well as running the Media and Technology module on the MA TESOL at the Unversity of Westminster.

“Ideas for Classroom Use – Podcasting”
This is a great website for classroom activities, especially Podcasts – Jürgen Wagner gave me this link the other day in Dillingen and there’s everything you need to do if you’d like to start working with podcasts! Thanks Jürgen!!!
With about 30 Our City Podcast episodes currently online, we’re building quite a library of audio by kids from cities all over. I encourage elementary and middle school teachers to use Our City Podcast in their classrooms. Here are some ideas for using Our City Podcast in the classroom:
- Groups of students listen and discuss different episodes. Have the groups report back to the class what they learned.
- Set up a listening center with a different episode each week. The center could be a computer, iPod, handheld, MP3 player, or a CD player (burn the podcast to CD using iTunes).
- Play an episode for the class while they work on an art project.
- Write feedback about the episode and email it (the page for each podcast lists an email address for the teacher).
- Listen to two episodes and compare and contrast the cities in those episodes.
- Listen to decide which city you would want to visit. Tell why.
- Which city would make a good home for you? Tell why.
- Which podcaster do you think would make a good friend for you. Tell why.
- Compare the information given in the podcast with the city’s Wikipedia entry.
- Find landmarks mentioned in an episode in Google Maps or Google Earth.
- What information or segment would you add to one of the episodes?
- Produce your own Our City Podcast episode. Resources are available.
- Offer some of above as extra credit opportunities.

Hier eine unterhaltsame Art, nebenbei Englisch zu lernen, der English-Blog. Mir gefällt besonders, dass Begriffe oder Grammatik anhand von Songtexten oder Filmausschnitten erklärt werden – eigentlich genau das, waswir für unsere Schüler brauchen … so please- spread the word- to students and colleagues! Man kann auch den Blog abonnieren und erhält dann eine tägliche Mail direkt ins Postfach…. kann man auch in seine Moodle Kurse einbinden..
Was ist dran an diesem Blog?
Für das Englisch-Lernen gibt es kein Patentrezept. Theoretisch hilft alles. Ein Sprachkurs, ein Auslandsaufenthalt oder die Sprache in irgendeiner Form sprechen, lesen und hören. Meistens gibt es jedoch ein Problem: kaum jemand hat Zeit und Lust zum Lernen.
Jeden Tag ein paar Minuten
Dabei sollte Lernen im Idealfall etwas sein, was ganz nebenher geschieht. Lieber in vielen kleinen Häppchen als in einem großen Stück. Lieber jeden Tag fünf Minuten als einmal in der Woche eine Stunde.

Der Englisch-Blog liefert jeden Tag neue, anschauliche Erklärungen, Tipps und Hinweise rund um die englische Sprache. Der tägliche Englisch-Snack für zwischendurch. Überall und jederzeit online abrufbar. Per RSS auch aufs Handy.

Der Englisch-Blog steht nicht in Konkurrenz zu Sprachkursen oder anderen detaillierten Formen der Wissensvermittlung. Im Gegenteil. Er ist vielmehr gedacht als nicht-kommerzielle Ergänzung für alle, die vor allem „das mit der Grammatik mal kapieren“ wollen. Jeden Tag ein kleines bisschen.
